Fortaleza is the state capital of Ceará, located in Northeastern Brazil. With a population close to 2.55 million (metropolitan region over 3.6 million), Fortaleza is the 5th largest city in Brazil. It has an area of 313 square kilometres (121 sq mi) and the highest demographic density in the country (8,001 per km²). To the north of the city lies the Atlantic Ocean; to the south are the municipalities of Pacatuba, Eusébio, Maracanaú and Itaitinga; to the east is the municipality of Aquiraz and the Atlantic Ocean; and to the west is the municipality of Caucaia. Residents of the city are known as Fortalezenses. Fortaleza is one of the three leading cities in the Northeast region together with Recife and Salvador.

The stadium Aderaldo Plácido Castelo Branco , Castelão , will stage the games of the Confederations Cup 2013 and the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 ™ . To prepare you for the events, the old structure , which opened in 1973 , is undergoing a renovation project , expansion and modernization . The work began on December 3, 2010 . The first interventions in the structure of the stadium were made on the outside . The concern of the State Government was possible , until March 2011 , conducting the Castellan of the first round games of the Ceará State Championship in 2011 .

After the total closure of the stadium , the work has intensified its pace of work and is now the earliest among all host cities . The prediction is that the Arena Castellan be delivered in December 2012 . To mark this commitment, the 2014 World Cup Special Secretariat of the Government of the State of Ceará adopted an unprecedented extent . On December 14, 2011 , a clock was installed on the outside of the Castelão , counting the missing to complete the stadium days . Another gesture of daring of the State Government , the Arena Operator Castellan Stadium and the Construction Consortium was announced on March 22 this year. The release goes until April 2013, when the Castelão Arena begin receiving structure for the Games of the Confederations Cup in 2013 . The prospect is that the same release as possible after the event and until the completion of the World in 2014 .
